HLC Sak Em Sugar is a product of years of breeding. He is out of a Dry Box mare that came from the Stanley Johnston program and the great Sugars Bars son, Sonny Sugar, who Jim and Joni Hunt have built their program on. HLC Sak Em Sugar, “Sanwood,” is a beautiful dun color with tremendous athleticism and cow sense. He rides with ease and plenty of speed. When starting Sanwood, his quickness and agility were top notch. As a young horse in training he severed a tendon that would keep him from further training but just recently we have been riding him again. He is doing great and has become one of Mike’s favorite ranch mounts. Sanwood still has a lot of future ahead of him. His offspring are of good size with that same athletic ability and typically the dun color. They are smart horses with the desire and ability to do what you ask. Crossed with the proven bloodlines of CC Jet Smooth and the foundation breeding of HLC Sak Em Sugar, we are finding a well rounded athlete with solid confirmation, good bone and keen looks. Sonny Sugar was a horse of versatility, he had points in Halter, Western Pleasure, and was used for cutting, reining, and roping. He sired many halter winners and performance winners, including barrel racing and roping. Sonny Sugar was a beautiful horse with a great mind that continues to make his mark in many breeding programs. Of course the great Sugar Bars was an all-time leading sire of AQHA Champions. His impact on the horse industry is far reaching. Glitter Mount had 14 halter points; Music Mount was the sire of ROM race, ROM arena and AQHA Champions. Fly Kimble and Sonny Kimble were also producers of champions. The dam of Sanwood, Sanwood Miss, is a full sister to the 1996 PRCA Bulldogging Horse of the Year. She has a history of producing winners in the arena, who have good minds and excellent confirmation. Sak Em San and Orphan Drift in her pedigree top off some of Sanwood’s great pedigree adding more proven arena winners to this outstanding lineage. Sanwood Miss is still a great producer in the Dry Box program. |
